Franklinton

Bountiful Land and Lifestyle Opportunities

Strange but true - except for a small twist of fate (and a lot of money), Franklinton could have been the home to Duke University... instead of Durham. That's because, in 1889, businessmen Washington Duke and Julian Carr outbid Franklinton for Durham to be the new home of Trinity College. The little school had been in another town for 30 years and wanted to make a change. Trinity moved to Durham and was renamed Duke University.

Franklinton did not fully lose that competition, not at all. It won much by retaining its original charm, a charm unblemished by the hustle and bustle of world research and academia. The town remains small, with a population of just over 2,300.

The good news is that Franklinton offers bountiful land and lifestyle opportunities for those willing to live a little north of a;; the RTP hubbub and hustle. The median income for a family in Franklinton is $30,170, while the town is home to Novozymes North America, the largest multi-purpose enzyme manufacturing plant in the country.
